Forehand

Anna Leigh Waters shifts her weight as she steps into the ball. Watch point.

  • Start in ‘ready position’ – knees bent, paddle up in front and middle of body
  • Keeping eye on ball, step forward with off-leg (opposite of paddle arm)
  • Shift weight as you step,
  • Shoulders turn so off-shoulder (opposite of paddle arm) points across net to target,
  • Keep looking at the ball (not the target) and swing side-arm. keeping paddle face straight and perpendicular to ground
  • Swing through 4 lined up imaginary balls to follow through, finishing with paddle pointing at target
Demonstration: Forehand Dinking

  • What is it: “Dinking” is a touch skill that moves the ball from one side of the Non-Volley-Zone (NVZ) or kitchen to the other side in a gentle, controlled stroke.
  • How to: Paddle and hand/wrist are “locked”. Reach forward making a gentle up-stroke motion with the goal of the ball clearing the net and landing in the near half of the other NVZ. Retuning each time to the “ready position” and using your feet to anchor you to your service court. This skill demands high levels of concentration and patience
